British New Wave – UK Calling
“Just like the old CFNY”
UK Calling is Canada’s premier 80s show! This band stands out through their dedication to alternative music of the era. Featuring some of Toronto’s finest musicians, UK Calling is a high energy show that features the best of New Wave, 2 Tone Ska and Post-Punk from the late 70s and early 80s. Looking for Bon Jovi or Madonna and you’ll be out of luck. But if you’re after The Smiths or The Specials then you’ve come to the right place!
What separates this show from the rest is the energy brought to the performance. More than a pair of wayfarers and a cheesy synthesizer, this 7-piece band with full horn section digs in and works their hearts out to bring audiences a dynamic and animated show that keeps people dancing all night. UK Calling play the songs that nobody else touches. Tears for Fears, Joy Division, Madness – if you know who these are, you will love UK Calling. For those that are new to the genre, the engaging performance and the world-class tenor voice of entrancing frontman Peter James Fox, will pull you in and take you on a journey that will leave you saying ‘Wow!’
The typical UK Calling show offers the best of new wave, post punk and 2tone ska from the late 70s and early 80s. The offer three other options as well:
– UK Curing: The Best of The Cure – UK Calling perform one set featuring the Cure most classic hits, from the Seventeen Seconds to Wish albums.
– Nothing But New Wave – a dance-floor centric show that just focuses on the best of New Wave from the 80s.
– Tribute to 2 Tone Ska – UK Calling bring together a set dedicated to 2 tone records. Think bands like The Specials, Madness, English Beat and more. This show features an extended horn section and some of the best musicians in Canada.
UK Calling are currently on a string of sold out shows across Ontario, but have been packing dancefloors across Ontario since 2018.
